VOKA West-Vlaanderen in Japan: Exploring the Future of Society

The Goal

The goal of the trip was simple: to offer fresh perspective.

By exploring how Japan blends deep-rooted culture with cutting-edge innovation, the program encouraged West-Flemish leaders to rethink how they approach challenges at home — from customer experience to automation, sustainability, and leadership.

It wasn’t about copying what works in Japan, but about learning from it — and finding new ideas that fit our own context.

The Solution

This tailor-made program was designed around three key Expo 2025 themes:

  • Empowering Lives in Tokyo: Discovering the latest in robotics, smart cities, and digital transformation.
  • Saving Lives in Osaka: Learning how Japanese companies lead in sustainable food and health technology.
  • Connecting Lives in Kyoto: Exploring how Japanese values like omotenashi create richer customer and community experiences.

Through curated company visits, roundtables, and cultural moments, participants were encouraged not just to observe, but to reflect — and bring back insights they could apply to their businesses.
